DOUBLE SHOOTING ON VIRGINIA AVENUE

Detectives are attempting to identify three unknown Persons of Interest connected to the 1100 Virginia Avenue homicide.

All three individuals were located and identified. They are no longer considered Persons of Interest as of 7/19/2022.

ORIGINAL RELEASE:

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Detectives with the Portsmouth Police Department Major Crimes Unit are continuing their investigation into a shooting incident that has left a man dead and another seriously injured.

On Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at approximately 11:40 p.m., the Portsmouth Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call about a male who was shot in the 1100 block of Virginia Avenue. When officers arrived, they located an adult male with an injury to his upper body that was consistent with being shot. Medics arrived and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene. The victim has been identified as 29-year-old Robert D. Parker of Portsmouth.

As officers were attempting to secure the scene on Virginia Avenue, a second victim, an adult male, walked into a local hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to the lower body. The hospital made notification to the Emergency Communications Center at approximately 11:46 p.m. Although his injuries are serious, they do not appear to be life-threatening. It has been confirmed that this victim is was injured during the shooting incident on Virginia Avenue.

At this time detectives are asking that anyone who may have information about this case to call the Portsmouth Crime Line at 1–888-LOCK-U-UP ℠. As always, Crime Line tipsters are never asked to give their name or required to testify in court. If a crime line caller’s tip leads to an arrest, the recovery of drugs or stolen property they could be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1000.
