Andre L. Rawls was arrested on July 11, 2022. He is charged with Attempted Malicious Injury of a Police Officer and Attempted Breaking & Entering. He is currently being held at Portsmouth City Jail.

ORIGINAL RELEASE:

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — On June 19, 2022, at approximately 11:28 a.m., a PPD officer responded to a call for service near the 2300 block of Greenwood Drive. There an adult male brandished a sharp object at the officer on scene.

During the encounter the officer fired at the suspect and he sustained a serious gunshot wound. The suspect was transported to a hospital for treatment. This incident will be investigated by the Virginia State Police. We will keep the public informed as the investigation continues.
